Botox® Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable medication that smooths fine lines and wrinkles. This neuromodulator interferes with the nerve signals that control muscle movement. Once injected into a specific muscle, Botox temporarily paralyzes it. The muscle can’t contract, so the skin on top of it won’t crease. Existing wrinkles start to soften, while new wrinkles can’t form.

Does Botox treat all types of wrinkles?

Botox treats dynamic wrinkles, which develop from repeated muscle movement. Also called expression lines, dynamic wrinkles tend to form in the upper area of your face. The most common types of dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet
  • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Marionette lines around the mouth

Your medical spa injector may also use Botox to create the effect of a nonsurgical brow lift. Botox cannot treat static wrinkles, which develop from volume loss. If you have static wrinkles, your skin may appear creased at rest. Luxbae offers a wide selection of dermal fillers to treat static wrinkles.

What can I expect from Botox?

When you arrive for your Botox injections, your medical spa provider performs a facial evaluation to target your areas of concern. This is an opportunity for you to share your concerns and treatment expectations.

Next, your provider may apply a topical anesthetic to minimize any discomfort you experience. Once you’re comfortable, they inject the neuromodulator into predetermined areas of your skin. The entire process takes about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas you want to treat.

While you may see initial results within a few days of treatment, it can take up to two weeks for Botox to take its full effect.

How long does Botox last?

Botox results last for about 3 to 6 months. Over time, your results begin to fade. Since the treatments are fast and minimally invasive, you can return to Luxbae for additional injections. Your provider may also recommend combining Botox with other cosmetic treatments, like dermal fillers, facials, and radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening, to enhance your results.
